Regenerative Medicine: A Revolution in Healthcare
Regenerative medicine is a novel, emerging specialty of medicine focused on enhancing the body’s ability to regenerate healthy tissue and overcome disease processes.
It accomplishes this by utilizing various sources of cells and/or growth factors as well as cellular byproducts to engage one’s body to grow healthy tissue with healthy cells. Regenerative Medicine therapy can be used to treat many medical conditions such as joint and spine problems by unlocking the natural ability of the human body to regenerate healthy tissue and restore health and function.
Adult cells can be obtained by a physician harvesting them from the patient. This is done by extracting a small amount of bone marrow or adipose (fat) tissue, then processing the tissue to separate the cells to be reintroduced in the affected area of the body such as the knee, hip, or shoulder joint. Injection of the cells in the lumbar and cervical facet joints as well as in the lumbar discs is a newer and exciting concept. Other sources of stem cells are the ones taken from another person’s cord blood and amniotic tissue.
Exosomes are very important in regenerative medicine. Exosomes are tiny vesicles, or packets, carrying all of the important information of the cell. They are released from cells and transferred to other cells passing on all of the information. They are critical to the proliferation of healthy cells. It is believed that the regeneration of healthy tissue is not a direct result of the stem cells, but rather the exosomes left behind, that transfer the information from one cell to another.
Regenerative medicine therapy allows the human body to naturally heal. It stimulates healthy cell growth and regenerates healthy tissue.
The myriad of conditions that can be helped with regenerative medicine therapy is almost limitless because it is encouraging the body to regenerate healthy tissue and heal.
This is a very exciting time in medicine, where we can treat medical conditions rather than just manage the symptoms and watch them progress. Finally, there is something YOU can do to be proactive in regaining your health!!!
Don’t suffer from illness, injury, or pain, without taking the time to find out if stem cell therapy can help you or a loved one.
